A biohybrid interaction framework for the integration of robots in animal societies

The collective behavior of animals has been traditionally studied through observation, quantitative models behavior, and devices low intelligence. Nowadays, the advancements in field robotics allow for closed-loop experiments that occur real-time, artificial agents intelligently autonomously blend into hybrid groups robots (i.e., biohybrid groups). Such systems provide scientists with opportunity to study social interactions govern from within group animals, either by mimicking them or introducing precise stimuli elicit their response. In this work, we introduce an open source Biohybrid Observation Interaction (BOBI) platform small which consists 3 main components: 1) experimental setup; 2) a wheeled mobile robot called LureBot; 3) software. We demonstrate software hardware design aspects make BOBI stand out compared our previous system similarly purposed systems.
